If you are temporarily outside our plan’s service area, but still in the United States and you have an urgent need for care, you probably will not be able to find or get to one of the providers in our plan’s network. When out of the service area, urgent care may be obtained from the first available provider. In addition, when out of the service area you can obtain dialysis treatment from any qualified dialysis provider.
If you need care when you are outside the service area, your health care coverage is limited. The only services we cover when you are outside our service area are care for a medical emergency, including poststabilization care, urgently needed care, renal dialysis (kidney), and care that MD Care Health Plan or a plan provider has approved in advance. Other care may be covered but subject to a higher co-insurance. If you have questions whether a service is covered when you travel, please call MD Care’s Member Services Department at the number listed in the front of this directory.
If you obtain routine care from out-of-network providers, neither Medicare nor Plan will be responsible for the costs. If you have questions whether a service is covered when you travel, please call MD Care’s Member Services Department at (888) 816-7978. Our hours of operation are 8AM to 8PM 7 days a week October 15th through March 1st, and 8AM to 8PM Monday through Friday after March 2nd.
